ISRAEL ENTERS GAZA BRIEFLY FOLLOWING NETANYAHU’S DECLARATION THAT HAMAS WILL “PAY THE PRICE.”

Netanyahu promised to “make Hamas pay,” and ISRAEL ENTERS GAZA i. e. Israeli tanks momentarily moved into Gaza. According to the Israeli military, the tank penetration was a prelude to the “next phase of the fight.” While giving no specifics, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alluded to the prospect of a ground invasion.

As part of their preparation for the next phases of the conflict, Israeli tanks were deployed into the northern section of Gaza on Thursday night. This came after Netanyahu hinted at the possibility of a ground invasion. The enclave was the focus of repeated strikes by the military, and Netanyahu made a suggestion about a potential ground invasion.

In the continuing battle, this is Israel’s second short ground foray into Gaza. The first was a few weeks ago, when Israeli soldiers briefly entered the area to find and destroy Hamas tunnels. Over 250 airstrikes have been reported in the last few days against Gaza by the Israeli military, which has been attacking the region nonstop. Although Israel maintains that it is targeting Hamas locations, Palestinians charge Israel with randomly killing civilians.

Due to acute fuel shortages, the situation in Gaza has deteriorated into a humanitarian crisis that is affecting the Palestinian people’s access to food, shelter, and educational opportunities. The United Nations organization providing assistance to Palestinians announced that the decreasing fuel supply required to run generators had forced them to drastically scale back activities. Because Israel is concerned that fuel may be utilized by Hamas for military objectives, it has prohibited petroleum from entering Gaza.

To give American soldiers more time to bolster security around its locations in the region, the US has encouraged Israel to postpone a ground assault for a few days. Additionally, the Biden administration wants to continue the peace negotiations and give Gaza more support. They desire that the Israeli military focus more on its military goals and steer clear of a possible large-scale urban conflict that could cause a great deal of civilian losses.

A resolution requesting a temporary truce was being voted on in the UN Security Council in the meanwhile. The proposal, while non-binding, presented a wide-ranging worldwide viewpoint that was sharply divided on how to respond to the situation. Ten countries abstained, Brazil and Mozambique abstained, and the resolution was rejected by Russia, China, and the United Arab Emirates. Russia and China, two permanent members, used their veto power to prevent the resolution from being adopted.

A resolution endorsing Israel’s right to self-defense and expressing unity with the country was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, garnering a substantial majority. Jacob J. Lew, President Biden’s choice to be the next U.S. ambassador to Israel, is anticipated to be approved soon, underscoring the country’s commitment to Israel.
